The first menopause retreat of its kind

The Telegraph

The science is in

How you look after yourself during the menopause can have a profound impact on how you experience symptoms

Healthy adrenal glands release small amounts of estrogen and progesterone. Beginning in the perimenopause, our adrenals are designed to take over for the ovaries and ease the way through the transition to menopause.

But if our adrenals are worn out, there's a very good chance that the menopause journey will be bumpy and include symptoms such as insomnia, reduced sex drive and that tired-yet-wired feeling.

During our menopause retreats in southern Spain, we gently guide your body back towards a state of equilibrium. Yoga, breathing and mindful meditation practices to help you manage hot flushes, night sweats, stress, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, irritability and low mood.

Food to support the menopause

A great deal of research and testing shows that hormonal health – from teenagers to mid-life women and beyond – can be helped by balancing blood sugar and supporting the adrenal glands. So, throughout this week we will be offering you a diet of delicious slow-burning nourishment that achieves precisely that.

Yoga to Support the Menopause

According to NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) and the British Medical Society (BMS), yoga and mindful meditation can help alleviate some menopause symptoms, which is why GPs and other health practitioners are recommending that women practice yoga for the menopause.

Lelly will guide you through yoga poses, breathing techniques and mindful meditation practices designed to alleviate your symptoms and give you a better menopause experience.

our team of experts

Lelly, Yoga Teacher

Lelly initially trained as a yoga teacher 20 years ago with the Sivananda school in India and has also studied Dynamic Yoga Method with Godfrey Devereux and Insight and Yin yogas with with Sarah Powers. Her practice regulates breathing, reduces stress and balances the endocrine and nervous system.

Lelly knew little of the impact of perimenopausal symptoms until she entered the phaser herself at age 48. As well as seeking advice for her diet, Lelly set about focusing on postures that could help - ones which inform the Kaliyoga menopause retreat's classes.

Lelly focuses on body parts relevant to the menopause: the kidneys, because they’re connected to the adrenals that work with stress and anxiety, and hip stretches designed to help the gallbladder, practising forward bends that have a cooling and calming effect through stretching the back of the neck and applying acupressure to the thyroid.

Rebecca Jones, Nutritional Therapist

A great deal of research and testing shows that hormonal health can be helped by balancing blood sugar and supporting the adrenal glands. Becs works to design menus full of delicious, slow-burning nourishment that achieves precisely that.

We use intelligent nutrition by mixing complete protein with high-quality fats in combination with wholesome vegetables to help reduce hot flushing, balance your energy and support your sleep. Herbal helpers also can play a role in restoring balance and nourishing the body.

Becs spends time with each guest to learn about her existing habits and to suggest delicious modifications to help ease hormonal symptoms.

Amanda Norris, Chef

Amanda's aim is to make your retreat an inspirational taste sensation. Alongside preparing the three main meals of the day, Amanda hosts various workshops including a fermentation class which will give you the fundamentals for good gut health. Amanda will be on hand for any questions you may have.
